Works in process [ca. 1982]

"My working method consists primarily of a dialogue between me and the evolving picture. The focus of my work is on the relationships of space, shape, texture, color and form that are essential to good abstract or representational paintings and prints . . . . To me it is important to realize a metaphysical quality in my work . . . ."

"I can say nothing of my feeling about space which is not already expressed in my paintings . . . I have looked for the same things, which I have perhaps realized by different means . . . In a very restricted space, the breadth is five metres, I wanted to inscribe, as I had done so far in paintings of fifty centimetres or one metre, a spiritual space; that is, a space whose dimensions are not limited even by the existence of the objects represented." [Matisse]
